(Material Requirements Planning / Bill of Materials)
The material requirements planning process is designed to take the production schedule replenishment quantities, "explode" through the bill of materials (BOM*) to create component requirements which are netted against on-hand and on-order, level by level. It is a time-phased process where by the planned orders are driven by actual requirements by date. (refer to the Manufacturing module for further information).
* In the DesCom system, the Bill of Materials (BOM) Maintenance creates a link between Inventory and Manufacturing by interfacing the model or sub-assembly code for inventory purposes to a code that holds the BOM for manufacturing purposes.
